The Defence Headquarters has revealed that Nigerian Military forces have successfully neutralized 28 terrorists, apprehended 92 individuals suspected of terrorism, and liberated 82 abducted hostages across the six geopolitical regions within the past fortnight.
Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, shared this information during a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday. The conference, held bi-weekly, serves to update the public on the ongoing activities of the Military and other security agencies.
According to the Defence Media Operations (DMO), the military operations resulted in the seizure of 108 firearms, 564 rounds of ammunition, 1,166,900 liters of stolen crude oil, 1,491,250 liters of illicitly refined AGO (Automotive Gas Oil), 54,750 liters of DPK (Dual Purpose Kerosene), and 800 liters of PMS (Premium Motor Spirit).
These operations thwarted oil theft, preventing a total sum of N876,451,800.00 (Eight Hundred and Seventy-Six Million Four Hundred and Fifty-One Thousand Eight Hundred Naira) from falling into the hands of criminals.
Providing specifics on the tragic event involving troop ambush in Niger State, the Director of Defence Media Operations noted the loss of 36 officers during the ambush. He emphasized that investigations are ongoing to ascertain the cause of the incident.
In closing, he appealed to the public to remain vigilant against the propaganda tactics employed by terrorists and to maintain a strong sense of patriotism.
